The MESA/PG&E Scholarship program is available through the generous support of PG&E and MESA Statewide. The scholarship recognizes students for their achievements and pursuit of academic opportunities. The 2012 scholarships of $750 and $500 were awarded to Sonoma State MESA students Joshua Disborow, Chio Saephan, and Teresa Hurtado-Diaz. These students were selected based on academic merit, financial need, and leadership in the engineering and science community.
All awards were presented at the M*A*T*H Fest 2012 banquet in April. See the photos on the Follow-Up page linked to the right. Congratulations Joshua, Chio and Teresa!
Over 700 educationally disadvantaged students from middle and senior high schools in the northern California region dropped eggs from tall buildings, raced miniature cars built from mousetraps, flew gliders across the sky and competed in other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) focused activities on Saturday, April 30 at Sonoma State University. Read more about this OUTSTANDING event!
SSU aims to recruit, retain, and graduate more students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to meet the science and technology challenges faced by California and the nation. SSU MESA works to enrich the learning environment for educationally disadvantaged students so that upon graduation these students can enter STEM-related professions. SSU MESA completes the MESA pathway for students in the northern California region that are part of the established and growing MESA Schools Programs (MSPs) and MESA Community College Programs (MCCPs) in the region.
MESA is an academic program that supports educationally disadvantaged students to attain four-year degrees in science fields. MESA Centers are located at UC, CSU, and independent university campuses. MESA provides rigorous support through a variety of components and reinforces these components through establishment of a peer community based on academic achievement. This community provides students, most of whom are first in their family to go to college, with mutual support and motivation. This academic community is what sets MESA apart from other programs.
MESA programs exist at the K-12 level (MESA Schools Programs - MSPs), community college level (MESA Community College Programs - MCCPs) and at the university level (MEPs). See the MESA Statewide website for more information about MESA.
